My dear, I have long long said that a gay man is your daughter's BEST friend...because he'll give her the shirt off his back, and teach her the wicked arts of queen-fu, like how to spot a looooooser. Then again, you could've done what I did. I waited till National Coming Out Day, and called my mom. We didn't really speak again w/o causing a fight for about 5 years ;)

I just make it a practice to not really talk to my mom (or the two siblings who additionally wish I had never been born). In fact, I think September will mark one year since I've seen them at all. Do you think ducking out of the holidays for the second year in a row will be easier or harder after that? I gave it a good three year run before throwing in the towel, now it's just too hard to keep the hope alive. "Guess I was in deeper than I thought I was if I have enough love for the both of us." I only "lost" 4 people in my life when coming out; my longest, Mormon, friend and three family members. But oh how much I gained...

i'm starting to think that biological families are WAY overrated. i think the people you aquire on your life's journey are much more precious as you chose them and they chose you--so it's total acceptance. family members sometimes are so ignorant and selfish that the blood lines tying you to them aren't enough...you need mutual respect, you need total acceptance and you need love from them that is totally unconditional. unfortunately, sometimes people don't get that...i know i didn't, but i can't speak for you, just me.
